French (MFL) Intent Statement
In a world of international trade, travel and opportunity this has never been more crucial.
“To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world”
- Chinese Proverb
French is foreign language which provides the perfect vehicle to develop positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures. By studying a modern foreign language it enables children to learn how to communicate in a different way and develop an international outlook to gain an enhanced understanding of the world and other cultures.
We seek to enthuse, excite and enhance our children’s interest, knowledge and skills in using a different language and provide a spark to ignite their curiosity of other cultures.
At Holly Spring, we want to ensure that every single child has the opportunity to enjoy learning a foreign language. We aim to inspire and encourage children to learn and understand the language and culture. We want our French curriculum to foster curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. We aim for our language teaching to build a foundation for learning further languages in the future. Knowledge, aspiration and experience, are fully embedded in our French curriculum.
Within these values we aim to:
Knowledge:
- Build the children’s understanding if languages and the world around them
- Provide a range of methods to communicate such as speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Develop and build upon children’s ability to work linguistically, starting in Year 1 through to Year 6.
Aspiration:
- Provide the opportunity to be secure with language learning which can be used in their future education and travels.
Experience:
- Teach children the vocabulary to enable them to communicate in French and be able to have the confidence to brave a new language.
